Long Bay Baptist Church was established in 1978 and has always been keen to be an integral part of the local community. All that we do is based on our understanding that God has shown us Himself in Jesus Christ, and He calls us to discover life and purpose by following Jesus and sharing His love with others. We meet the needs of people from childhood through to the elderly. We also provide support to immigrants, operate a food bank, and provide housing for those struggling with mental health issues.
Our commitment to Jesus is expressed in baptism, and church involvement. A sense of being family is a huge priority for us. Our family celebration time on Sunday mornings is always a highlight of our time together! Those of all ages are valued, and encouraged to be involved in our worship services and in our ministry. Children and youth have programs designed to help them develop friendships and life skills.
We are part of the Baptist Union of churches here in New Zealand, and we both offer, and receive, support from our Baptist family. Our close relationship with other local churches is also valued. Our desire is to continue to be a pivotal part of our Long Bay community offering support, friendship, faith and life.
We are a family with open arms.
Our mission is to communicate Christ’s love and make disciples.
Meet The Team
I have been here since 2012. And by here, I mean at Long Bay Baptist Church, but also here in New Zealand. I originally hail from sunny South Africa and spent 10 years in the UK before being called to this church. With me came my lovely wife, Verena, and our four amazing children (I’m their Dad – I’m allowed to say they’re amazing!).
I think that Church is great and I think that this local expression of church is wonderful: flawed, but wonderful. Seeing people come to faith and seeing lives transformed is a joy to be a part of. We do this in all sorts of ways as we creatively explore how to share the gospel of Jesus with others
